Dear Kris, I just wanted to let you know that thanks to you my husband received his Dutch passport and is a EU citizen again! Its incredible for us! A year ago we were told by the embassy he wasn’t entitled to Dutch citizenship and that he lost his right at the age of 28. Two different people from the embassy said the same thing. We lost hope. Over a year later I asked a question about my Dutch father’s in law settled status. You then answered my question. I could not believe it! You spent time both asking and answering my questions with some quotes of Dutch law.
We called the embassy again and this time we just simply applied for his first passport.. We had to prove he hasn’t left EU for 10 years. It all went through and recently it arrived by a courier. We could not believe it. It all happened because a kind soul first suggested it and then took time to check the complicated Dutch law for us! It’s incredible. I have been telling this story to our family and friends and they are all astonished. It taught me that some information needs more than double checking. Brexit took away my husband’s rights. We both cried when it happened. Now I feel peace of mind that we can leave the UK any time and he can settle anywhere in Europe like me. He’s been studying Dutch everyday since applying for his passport. As a token of out appreciation we’d really like to send you a nice bottle of Geneva??
