In my work, the subject of wills is usually discussed, but sometimes you encounter strange situations. For example, a few years ago an older single woman without children contacted me through a business friend. She wanted to arrange her will. When she asked this, I initially responded by saying that I cannot draw up a will, you have to go to a notary for that.
However, as the conversation progressed, all kinds of matters came up, on which I actually could advise her in preparation for the conversation with the notary. She had issues with her entire family and under no circumstances did she want anyone from her family to be present at the funeral or to inherit anything from her. Let alone arrange the settlement of her estate. Madam was very clear! All the more reason to arrange this properly in a will.
When Madam had sufficient clarity on how to proceed, she decided to appoint me as Testamentary Executor. She had clear wishes on how her estate should be divided. She had also listed her wishes for her funeral. The notary then drew up a will as she wanted. She has since passed away and we, as executor of the will, have arranged her funeral and the settlement of the estate according to her wishes.
