As a former dual American / Dutch citizen who inadvertently lost my Dutch nationality in 2013 by virtue of living outside the EU for 10 years without continually renewing my Dutch passport, I reached out to Kris to understand whether my nationality could be repaired. Kris identified my most viable path to secure a Dutch residency permit for a non-temporary purpose to be opening an entrepreneurial business (in my case, a ZZP) under the Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT).

After completing the DAFT application, Kris reviewed it and caught a few errors which, if left uncorrected, might have delayed consideration of the application, and secured an appointment for me to submit it. Throughout the process, he responded quickly, comprehensively and thoughtfully.

For my brother, who also successfully regained his Dutch nationality with assistance from Habsburg & Kuijk Legal Services, Kris identified an alternate pathway. Kris asked thought provoking questions in our initial meeting, such as whether my work career could be argued to have been in service of an international organization to which the Netherlands is a signatory, as that might have paused the 10-year clock. In short, Kris takes the time to fully understand his clients before settling on a customized plan of action.

Once the plan was established, Kris was a true professional, walking me through all the necessary steps, both procedural and practical. He avoided overpromising by laying out *maximum* timelines under the law (such as 13 weeks + 13 weeks to consider the option submission). When my municipality dramatically outperformed those timelines, I was pleasantly surprised to regain my nationality only 410 days after landing at Schiphol, only 11 days after submitting my Option declaration with the municipality.

My Dutch taxes are facilitated by Marinka at Habsburg & Kuijk. She, too, is responsive and professional. I am happy to recommend Habsburg & Kuijk Legal Services for their immigration, citizenship and tax services.
